Artist Statement
This body of work centers around the repetitive, idealized suburban space. Through digital manipulation and an obsessive focus on specific subjects, I create images that subvert and reimagine these banal spaces into a more fantastical world. These images break down similar structures, such as houses, cars, and street signs and reassemble them in ways I find poetic or lyrical. Additionally, this digital reassemblage communicates how these spaces blend in their consistent similarity. These images are also visually discriminatory, as I mainly focus on subjects that are dated, vintage, or generally “timeless” in appearance. This creates a visual story of a romanticized suburban structure. But, through this visual restructuring, I aim to heighten the fantasy and dream-like nature of this particular vision of the American suburbs.
